Cookies for Kids' Cancer was founded by two OXOnians, Gretchen and Larry Witt, who were inspired by their son Liam's battle with cancer. They were shocked to learn that childhood cancer is the leading cause of death by disease of kids in the US. The reason: lack of funding for new, improved, and less toxic therapies for cancers specific to children. The Witts knew they had to do something to make a difference for the more than 40,000 children in the US battling cancer each day.
OXOnians were among the first to sign up to help when Larry and Gretchen had the crazy idea to bake 96,000 cookies back in 2007. And when Cookies for Kids’ Cancer launched in 2008, OXOnians hosted one of the first bake sales – an annual tradition that alone has funded more than one research project.
