    Fumero

    Artist
Fumero's artistic journey began at 4 years old drawing bubble figures that developed into cartoons as a kid, graffiti as a teenager, logo design in community college, and the art of the abstracted figure and caricature in art school. It was at The School of Visual Arts in New York where these influences all met at the crossroads of a harmonious interaction among line, shape and color to form a unique path of artistic exploration he calls Grafstract.

Fumero’s intent was always to be direct with his approach to painting. The art he creates is an extension of his character, bold and uninhibited, assertive and unorthodox. Fumeroism embodies the evolution of late 20th century post graffiti art culture. His ism engage the public to look beyond the confines of their presubscribed notion of reality by employing the combination of the art elements with the emotional energy of the subject matter. His color pallet is extensive and expressive. He applies his colors with a spontaneously bold purpose to create motion among the myriad of vivid hues rendered in intricate detail. Fumero sees movement where there is none and this is evident with the parade of contrasting sizes of shapes and colors rooted in graffiti motifs such as bubbles, bits and organic and geometric shapes which were once design patterns that filled his wild-style letters and have over time transformed into other subject matter such as the human figure.

His graphic approach to fine art is not only evident in the “logo-esque” manner of strategically choreographed colors, but also in the way he illustrates with a black, hard-edge contour, adding a more fluid exaggeration of emotion and movement to shapes and forms, especially in regard to his anatomical grafstraction. It is with these three aspects of color, line and shape that objective and non-objective Fumeroism compositional works of art captivates the viewers to explore and motivates the curiosity. Acrylic paint has been the choice of medium ever since the artist was a teenager creating graffiti designs on the backs of jean jackets and down the side of denim pants. From denim to canvas Fumero fused all of the artistic stimuli that resonated with him into developing one unified body of self-expression that took a life time to achieve.

Fumero began going global in 2012 and started grafstracting murals internationally in cities such as Berlin, London and in countries like Brazil, Spain and Italy. He has also gotten-up in Costa Rica, Amsterdam and Montreal.

His art form is distinctive and unique in the contemporary art world. Fumeroism needs no signature because it is a highly recognizable brand. Fumero has been showing his art work inside art galleries since 2010 in cities such as New York, Chicago and Miami.

The purpose of an artist is to achieve originality and integrity in their art. For one’s art to stand apart from the rest, the artist must create a body of work that is unique and resonating. What is art? Art is in the mind of the viewer just as beauty is in the eye of the beholder. It is of no importance whether art is admired or ridiculed only that it is remembered.
