Cookies for Kids’ Cancer is a national 501(c)3 non-profit committed to raising funds for research to develop new, improved, and less toxic treatments for pediatric cancer — the #1 disease killer of children in the U.S. Through the concept of local events and online cookie sales, Cookies for Kids’ Cancer has granted more than $21 million to date, funding 130+ research projects that have led to 25 new treatments becoming available for children battling cancer today.

Job Summary

Cookies for Kids’ Cancer seeks an experienced Individual Giving & Major Gifts Manager to lead efforts that will support the organization’s exponential growth plans. The main focus for this position is Individual Giving and Major Donor opportunities. The successful applicant for this role will have a unique alignment of skills: highly self-motivated, results-driven, a team player, proficient at relationship management, and excellent experience in fundraising. They will report to the Chief Revenue Officer and work closely with the Executive Director, playing a critical role in being a face and voice for the organization.

This is a remote position, but the greater New York City area is preferred.  


The Individual Giving & Major Gifts Manager play a crucial role in developing and implementing strategies to cultivate and steward individual donors, with a primary focus on securing major gifts. This position requires a proven track record in fundraising, relationship building, and a keen understanding of donor engagement.

As a trusted member of the team, the Individual Giving & Major Gifts Manager will be counted on across a number of initiatives. Key activities include:

Individual Giving

  • - Develop and execute strategies to increase the number of monthly donors, emphasizing the importance of sustained giving to support ongoing programs and initiatives.

  • - Implement targeted communication plans to engage and retain monthly donors, providing regular updates on the impact of their contributions.

  • - Collaborate with the marketing team to create compelling content, including success stories and progress reports, to promote the benefits of monthly giving.

  • - Develop and promote campaigns to encourage donors to make gifts in honor of special occasions or in memory of loved ones.

  • - Collaborate with the communications team to create sensitive and thoughtful messaging for in honor of and in memory of campaigns.

  • - Plan and execute Giving Tuesday campaigns, leveraging social media, email marketing, and other channels to maximize visibility and participation.

  • - Coordinate with the marketing team to create compelling content and visuals for Giving Tuesday, emphasizing the urgency and impact of donations on this global day of giving.

- Monitor campaign performance in real-time, adjusting strategies as needed to achieve fundraising goals and engaging donors throughout the day.

Major Giving

  • - Explore the multitude of opportunities that currently exist among the Board and other supporters, to develop and cultivate leads, and ultimately close deals.

  • - Network with existing Cookies for Kids’ Cancer constituents, and others who can generate new donor leads.

  • - Design and implement a comprehensive acquisition, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship plan for major stakeholders including specific offers tailored to different prospects.

  • - With support from the Marketing & Communications team, develop outreach campaigns (email, direct mail, social media, etc.) to generate new leads and create opportunities with existing and past supporters.

  • - Coordinate with other staff to maximize cross-selling opportunities (ex. cookies to corp. supporters, pitching gala tickets to major donors, etc.)

  • - If desired and feasible, plan and run new cultivation events to aid in fundraising and donor cultivation (ex. wine tasting, special dinner, art event, etc.)

  • - Identify and cultivate relationships with family foundations, working closely with foundation representatives to align their giving priorities with the organization's mission.

  • - Develop tailored proposals and presentations for family foundations, highlighting the impact of their support on specific programs or initiatives.

- Maintain strong relationships with family foundation donors, providing regular updates on funded projects and opportunities for site visits or direct engagement.

Donor Stewardship

  • - Evaluate the quality and impact of the donor relations/stewardship program for current donors

  • - Collaborate with other departments to create strategies for developing donor relations/stewardship standards

  • - Proactively support leadership in the design and execution of annual and multi-year stewardship plans for donors and top prospects.

  • - Develop a process to document and track stewardship.

  • - Regularly review management tools to ensure regular and timely stewardship.

  • - Implement a comprehensive stewardship program for donors who contribute in honor or in memoriam, including personalized acknowledgment and recognition efforts.


Required Qualifications & Competencies

The ideal candidate would have the following capabilities and qualities:

  • - BA/BS degree

  • - 5-7 years of relevant experience

  • - Demonstrated skills, knowledge and experience in the design and execution of fundraising plans leading to measurable growth.

  • - Strong creative, strategic, analytical, organizational and personal sales skills

  • - Demonstrated successful experience writing pitches, making presentations and negotiating/closing deals.

  • - Ability to periodically travel for donor meetings and fundraising events.

  • - Familiarity with Salesforce and using data for improving fundraising outcomes.

  • - Understanding of the development of successful fundraising campaigns involving different channels (email, social media, etc.)

  • - Digital literacy.

  • - Grant Writing experience a plus but not required.

  • - Experience working as part of a team delivering coordinated services highly desirable

  • - Ability to pay close and accurate attention to details

  • - Ability to juggle multiple tasks and priorities

  • - Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple projects

  • - Must be motivated to work independently

Compensation & Benefits

Cookies for Kids’ Cancer is seeking a full-time Individual Giving & Major Gifts Manager with an expectation of 40/hours a week. This is a remote position.

Compensation range is $70,000 - $85,000 annually.
