Cookies for Kids’ Cancer is a national 501(c)3 non-profit committed to raising funds for research to develop new, improved, and less toxic treatments for pediatric cancer — the #1 disease killer of children in the U.S. Through the concept of local events and online cookie sales, Cookies for Kids’ Cancer has granted over $18 million to date, funding more than 100 research projects that have led to 25 new treatments becoming available for children battling cancer today.


Job Summary

The Special Events Manager for Cookies for Kids’ Cancer will serve a leadership role in the organization, working to design, develop, and execute the Chefs for Kids’ Cancer brand in the New York City and Charlotte markets, as well as other targeted markets, nationwide. The ideal candidate will be able to build brand-related events of all sizes for all members of the Cookies for Kids’ Cancer community while managing subcontractors in various markets.

This is a remote position. However, the ideal candidate will be located in New York, New Jersey, or Connecticut.



The Special Events Manager will serve as lead for the organization’s special events, but will also engage with corporate partners, medical researchers, and other constituents key to the organization, as needed. Reporting directly to the Community Engagement Director, the Special Events Manager will also work closely with the Founder and Executive Director to plan and execute successful special events in New York City, Charlotte and other key markets, as assigned.

As a trusted member of the team, the Special Events Manager will be counted on for highly flexible and adaptable management skills across a number of initiatives. Key activities include:

Events Execution

  • Conceptualize and execute (virtual and in-person) fundraising and cultivation events, including but not limited to: Chefs for Kids’ Cancer - New York City, Chefs for Kids’ Cancer - Charlotte, and Family Fun Day.
  • Manage event logistics including but not limited to:
    • Annual event calendar tracking and management
    • Event budget management and maintenance
    • Venue and vendor research, identification, selection, negotiation, contracting, and management
    • Event floor plan, seating arrangements and guest allergy management, lighting & staging, etc.
    • Program agenda and other event content development
    • Printed materials, including copy and coordination of design for invitations and other event collateral
    • Invitation mailings and RSVP process
    • Volunteer and event committee management
    • On-site coordination of set up, run of show and breakdown

Fundraising & Stewardship

  •  Manage event fundraising platforms/auction software and oversee relationships pertaining to these accounts
  • Direct the in-event fundraising opportunities, including but not limited to silent auction, live auction, and reverse auction
  • Manage the fulfillment of auction packages
  • Evaluate and adjust in-event fundraising opportunities as needs change
  • Monitor the progress to special event fundraising goals, providing updates and reports to key stakeholders on a regular basis
  •  Work with event chairs and leadership committees to broaden participation and increase event revenue through sponsorships, ticket sales, and other opportunities
  • Coordinate with other departments such as Marketing & Communications to promote events on social media, e-mail marketing, website, etc.
  • Process gifts, as necessary
  • Oversee donor acknowledgments for special event attendees, the processes remain relevant and are fulfilled
  • Evaluate the quality and impact of the donor relations/stewardship program for grassroots donors
  • Proactively support leadership in the design and execution of annual and multi-year stewardship plans for donors and top prospects.

Strategy & Growth

  • Support strategy of overall organization’s goals by developing new Special Events opportunities and initiatives
  • Collaborate with leadership to support and fulfill the strategic development plan of the organization through major fundraising events
  • Monitor trends in the community or region and adapt fundraising efforts to Cookies for Kids’ Cancer strategic plan as necessary.
  • Foster an understanding of philanthropy within and outside the organization.
  • Performs other duties as assigned pertinent to the growth of the organization.


Required Qualifications & Competencies

The ideal candidate would have the following capabilities and qualities:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Five to seven years of experience with increasing responsibility in fundraising and event planning
  • Demonstrated success executing fundraising events that raise more than $1M
  • Excellent organizational skills and an eye for detail are essential.
  • Outgoing personality and ability to work well with a diverse group of people.
  • Must be able to think strategically and creatively.
  • Ability to be extremely flexible as organizational needs change in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent judgment, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills to interact with the public as well as with colleagues.
  • Excellent computer and fundraising database skills; knowledge of Salesforce, Classy, and/or OneCause strongly preferred
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends.
  • Overnight travel is required

We are seeking an individual of outstanding quality with a respected track record. Cookies for Kids’ Cancer is prepared to offer a very attractive compensation package, including a competitive base salary as well as health, 401(k), and vacation benefits.

This is a full-time remote position. However, the ideal candidate lives in New York, New Jersey, or Connecticut.

Salary range $60,000 - $70,000.
