At Georgia Institute of Technology, the Alpha Omega Chapter of Alpha Chi Sigma is proving that a simple idea can make a meaningful difference. Last year, more than 40 students came together to host a campus bake sale benefiting Cookies for Kids’ Cancer, turning everyday moments like walking to class into opportunities to give back.
Their approach is straightforward but effective. By setting up their bake sale in a central, high-traffic location during peak campus hours, the group meets people where they already are, making it easy for students to stop, grab a cookie and support a great cause.
“Our tip for hosts? Pick your location and timing strategically,” the team shared. “Go where the foot traffic is and when people actually have time to stop, like lunchtime in the center of campus.”
That strategy has paid off. Through cookie sales and donations, the chapter has raised more than $1,000 while spreading awareness about the need for pediatric cancer research across campus.
But for Alpha Chi Sigma, it’s not only about where they set up, it’s also about how they show up. Members focus on building real connections, taking the time to talk with fellow students, ask about their day and share why the cause matters. Combined with outreach on social media, their efforts help bring more people into the mission and create a stronger sense of community around their event.
Their story is a reminder that fundraising doesn’t have to be complicated. With thoughtful planning, strong teamwork and a willingness to engage others, even a single bake sale can go a long way.
Alpha Chi Sigma’s success shows how simple ideas can lead to change. Whether you’re on a college campus, in a workplace or part of a community group, you can turn small acts of kindness into meaningful impact.
