Classic Chewy Brownies
Yields two dozen brownies
- 2 sticks (1/2 pound) unsalted butter
- ¼ pound unsweetened chocolate, coarsely chopped
- 1 ¾ cups granulated sugar
- 4 large eggs, at room temperature
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- ¾ cups all-purpose flour
- ¼ teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 ½ cups walnuts or pecans (optional), coarsely chopped
