Graphic Design & Video Associate

Full-Time | Remote, U.S. | $40,000–$50,000

About the Role

Cookies for Kids’ Cancer is looking for a creative and talented Graphic Design & Video Associate to help bring our brand, campaigns and stories to life across social media, email, our website, events and other marketing channels.

This is an entry-level role for someone with strong design fundamentals, a natural eye for what looks good and the technical skills to turn an idea into polished creative work. You might be a recent graduate with a standout portfolio, or you may have already started building professional experience through internships, freelance work or an early-career design role.

We’re looking for someone who notices the details — typography, composition, hierarchy, pacing, consistency and the small creative decisions that make something feel current and well designed. You should enjoy creating for digital platforms, be comfortable editing video and be excited to continue developing your skills.

You don’t need years of professional experience to be successful in this role. We’re much more interested in finding someone with strong fundamentals, creative instincts, curiosity and a portfolio that makes us want to see more.

The Graphic Design & Video Associate will report to the Marketing & Communications Manager and collaborate with our Digital Content Coordinator when developing visual and video assets for social media, email and other digital content.

What You’ll Do

Social Media & Video
  • Design graphics and visual content for the organization’s social media channels
  • Edit short-form video content for Reels and other social platforms
  • Translate content briefs and creative direction into compelling visual executions
  • Bring your own ideas and visual perspective to projects
  • Stay current on social media design, video formats, editing styles and creative trends
  • Understand how to design specifically for social platforms rather than simply resizing traditional marketing graphics
  • Adapt content for different platforms and formats while maintaining a consistent visual identity
  • Source appropriate stock photography and other visual assets when needed

Email & Digital Design
  • Design graphics and visual elements for email marketing campaigns
  • Collaborate with the Digital Content Coordinator when visual assets are needed to support email and digital content
  • Create graphics and other visual assets for the organization’s website
  • Design digital assets supporting fundraising, awareness and marketing campaigns
  • Help ensure our visual identity feels cohesive across digital channels

Campaign & Event Design
  • Develop visual assets for major fundraising, awareness and marketing campaigns
  • Create graphic design and visual materials for two major organizational events each year
  • Carry an established creative direction cohesively across the range of assets required for a campaign or event
  • Create both digital and print collateral as needed
  • Prepare production-ready files and work within established brand standards
  • Adapt creative across different sizes, formats and applications while maintaining consistency

Creative Collaboration
  • Work closely with the Marketing & Communications Manager on creative direction, campaigns and organizational priorities
  • Collaborate with the Digital Content Coordinator when developing creative for social media, email and other content initiatives
  • Understand the objective behind an assignment and translate creative direction into strong visual work
  • Manage multiple creative projects and deadlines simultaneously
  • Work independently and make thoughtful design decisions without requiring constant direction
  • Take creative direction and feedback well and apply what you learn to future work
  • Ask thoughtful questions and communicate clearly when additional direction is needed
  • Be comfortable explaining your design choices and bringing forward a different creative approach when you believe it could make the work stronger
  • Help maintain and strengthen a consistent, recognizable visual identity across the organization

What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, visual communication, visual arts or a related field required
  • A strong portfolio demonstrating excellent design fundamentals, visual judgment and creativity — professional experience is not required
  • Strong understanding of typography, composition, hierarchy, layout and brand design
  • A natural eye for design and an ability to recognize what makes creative work feel polished, current and engaging
  • Experience editing video, particularly short-form content for social media, through professional, academic, internship, freelance or personal work
  • Proficiency with professional graphic design software and familiarity with video editing tools
  • Someone who genuinely enjoys creating and brings ideas, curiosity and a willingness to experiment to their work
  • An understanding of social media and an interest in what makes visual content compelling across different platforms
  • Comfortable learning new tools, experimenting with new formats and keeping up with evolving design, video and social media trends
  • Highly organized and able to manage multiple projects and deadlines
  • Able to take clear creative direction and feedback, ask thoughtful questions and apply feedback to future work
  • Comfortable working independently while also collaborating well with others
  • Proficient with or eager to develop proficiency in AI tools and interested in thoughtfully incorporating AI into creative workflows
  • Experience designing email marketing assets, website graphics, print materials or event collateral is a plus, but not required
  • Nonprofit experience is helpful but not required

This is an entry-level position. We welcome applications from recent graduates and early-career designers. We care more about the strength of your portfolio, your creative instincts and your potential than the number of years you’ve worked professionally.

Our Hiring Process

We want our hiring process to give you a chance to learn about us while giving us an opportunity to see how you approach a creative assignment.

  1. Screening Interview
A first conversation to learn more about you, your experience, your portfolio and what you’re looking for in your next role.
  2. Short Design Exercise
Candidates moving forward will receive a short creative brief, a selection of provided images and a design reference. The exercise should take no more than two hours. We do not expect or encourage candidates to spend additional time polishing it.

You’ll be asked to create a social media post based on the brief. As part of the exercise, you may also be asked to source one or two appropriate stock images and incorporate them into your design.

The goal isn’t to see who can spend the most time making something perfect. We want to understand how you interpret a brief, work from a visual reference, make design decisions, source appropriate imagery and execute an idea within a realistic amount of time.

  1. Interview with the Hiring Manager
A conversation with the Marketing & Communications Manager to discuss the role, your portfolio, your approach to design and your creative exercise.
  2. Final Interview
Finalists will meet with our Executive Director and Chief Revenue Officer before a hiring decision is made.
