Sometimes we have an idea for how a recipe should come out and we make it three or four times to get it right. Sometimes we nail it on the first try. We knew exactly what kind of oatmeal cookie we wanted – chewy, with just a hint of cinnamon – and we got it right away by using just brown sugar. High-fives on this one.

Both of my sisters had childhood cancer when I was growing up so I spent more time than most thinking about the impact of cancer on families and wanting to invest my energies in improving outcomes for such children.
Why did you want to get into pediatric cancer research? Because pediatric cancer research is very focused on cures, not merely on extending survival.
I can still remember my excitement when I discovered research involving humans (rather than the study of animals and plants) when I was an undergraduate in the UK. I immediately wanted to become involved in human research and studied immunology and virology.
If there is a word that sums up 2023 it would be perseverance.

In March 2011, 2 1/2 year old Haldora was diagnosed with T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Given only a 70% chance of surviving the next 5 years, she endured countless treatments and procedures – she was quite a fighter. Through it all her top supporter and twin brother, Hunt, was by her side, making her laugh and encouraging her to play and have fun. He wasn’t going to let cancer take away his sister. We checked in with Hunt to find out how he’s making a difference in the world of pediatric cancer and so much more.
The Cookie That Started It All … Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookies – Chocolate Chip Cookies are universal favorites at bake sales, but this recipe was developed specifically for Cookies for Kids’ Cancer’s first bake sale–the 96,000 cookie one.
Beth Robertson,the Manager of Community Outreach at Cookies for Kids’ Cancer, shares her story of son Cameron’s pediatric cancer diagnosis as a baby and why that experience changed her and her family forever. Beth has since committed her life to raising funds for childhood cancer research that has the strongest science behind it and the best chance of getting from a research lab to a child’s bedside in the shortest time frame possible.

On March 11th, we were scheduled to have our 7th annual Chefs for Kids’ Cancer event. After months of planning and coordination, we were hours away from welcoming 600 guests, 70 chefs, a team of sommeliers and mixologists and poised to have a record-breaking night of raising money for pediatric cancer research. The event is now postponed indefinitely.
