Ways Small Businesses Can Get Involved in Their Local Community

Here at Cookies for Kids’ Cancer, we love partnering with small businesses and seeing them join the fight against childhood cancer. When it comes to raising awareness and funds for research and treatments, small businesses have the power to make a big impact right in their own communities. Whether you own a bakery, boutique, gym or local coffee shop, there are plenty of meaningful ways to get involved. Here are a few simple ideas to help your business make a difference.

Host an Event

Think about what your business already does best and turn it into a fundraiser. Spread the word and invite your community to attend a special event for a small participation fee or donation. A gym could host a workout class, a coffee shop could organize a coffee tasting or a bakery could offer a cookie decorating workshop. The possibilities are endless, and using the strengths of your business makes fundraising easy and fun.

Become a Sponsor

Sponsoring a Cookies for Kids’ Cancer event or campaign is a great way to support our mission while increasing your visibility in the community. Your sponsorship not only helps fund critical pediatric cancer research, but it also shows your customers that you are committed to making a difference.

Businesses can sponsor local fundraising events, support citywide campaigns or contribute goods and services that help make events possible. It’s a meaningful way to give back while connecting with families and other businesses in your community.

Donate to an Event

Not every business has the time to host its own fundraiser, and that’s okay! There are still plenty of ways to make an impact by supporting existing events in your community.

Businesses can donate products, services, gift cards or experiences to be used as silent auction items at our Charlotte or New York event. These donations help raise additional funds for pediatric cancer research while also introducing your business to new audiences.

You can also support community members who are already hosting fundraisers for Cookies for Kids’ Cancer. Whether it’s donating supplies, providing refreshments, contributing a raffle prize or making a monetary donation, your business can play an important role in helping local events succeed.

Open your Space to Fundraisers

If your business has a storefront, office or event space, consider allowing supporters to host a fundraiser at your location. Opening your doors can make hosting an event much easier for community members who want to get involved but don’t have a space of their own.

Participate in City-Wide Bake Sales

You can also host or participate in citywide fundraising efforts and encourage your community to come together for a great cause. Some examples include our citywide bake sales in Richmond, Charlotte, Nashville and New York City, where small businesses joined forces to make a big impact.

But bake sales aren’t the limit. Imagine a citywide coffee crawl, fitness challenge or shopping event where multiple businesses work together to support kids fighting cancer. We would love to see even more creative citywide ideas come to life.

Have a Fundraising Night

Invite your customers to make a difference through their everyday purchases. Ask customers to round up their total to the nearest dollar or designate a percentage of sales from a specific day or night to donate to Cookies for Kids’ Cancer.

While these are some common ideas, we always love to see new fundraising strategies. If you have a creative idea for how your business can get involved, let us know! We love partnering with businesses to create unique fundraising opportunities that fit their brand, customers and community. We can’t wait to see what you come up with!
