Breaking Down OXO Bake A Difference
When 2-year-old Liam Witt was diagnosed with pediatric cancer in 2007, his parents, Gretchen and Larry Witt, both employees at OXO, were shocked to learn how underfunded childhood cancer research was. Determined to make a difference, they rallied 250 volunteers, many of them fellow OXOnians, and baked 96,000 cookies to raise critical funds for research into new, improved and less toxic treatments for pediatric cancer.
After Liam’s passing, OXO committed to honoring his legacy by becoming a long-term partner of Cookies for Kids’ Cancer, the nonprofit founded by the Witts. Since 2011, OXO has pledged up to $100,000 annually and helps mobilize a nationwide community of supporters. Together, they’ve raised over $5.75 million and hosted more than 5,600 fundraising events across nearly 1,100 cities and towns worldwide.

Tips for a Successful Bake Sale
-
Ask your local (or not local) bakeries to donate cookies
-
Don’t feel like you have to bake everything yourself! Reach out to local bakeries, or even favorite spots in other towns, to see if they’ll donate cookies or treats for your sale. Many businesses are happy to support a good cause with a meaningful mission.
-
Create Eye-Catching Signage
-
Great signage draws people in! Use posters, chalkboards, table toppers or banners to let everyone know what you're fundraising for and how their support helps kids battling cancer. Make your messaging clear, colorful and visible from a distance. Need ideas? Check out our Pinterest board for inspiration: https://www.pinterest.com/Cookies4KidsCancer/bake-sale-inspiration/
