Heather Pickens’ Story: Racing and Fundraising for Pediatric Cancer Research
When Heather Pickens runs, she does it with purpose. What began as a way to improve her fitness has grown into a mission to support kids fighting cancer and the families standing beside them. After discovering Cookies for Kids’ Cancer while researching charity race programs, Heather felt an immediate connection to the cause. Her family has experienced the heartbreak of losing their 3-year-old cousin Aubrey to cancer, and honoring her memory has become Heather’s motivation to give back.
Heather soon joined Team Good Cookie and invited her mom and sisters to run alongside her. Together, they’ve turned a personal goal into a family tradition of showing up for children who need better, safer treatment options. Since spring of 2025, they’ve hosted bake sales and secured local support, raising more than $6,000 for pediatric cancer research.
Through fundraising, Heather’s family has seen firsthand how small acts of kindness can bring comfort and hope. Each race and each bake sale is a reminder of the power of community and the impact generosity can make.
Running the runDisney races has become a meaningful way for Heather and her family to represent Cookies for Kids’ Cancer and share why funding research matters. Every mile is for the kids who deserve more tomorrows and for the families who should never run out of treatment options.
Supporters like Heather help create meaningful change. Whether you run, bake or host a community event, your efforts fuel the research kids need.
