How to Earn Volunteer Hours for School

Volunteer hours are a key requirement for many schools and scholarship programs, but finding a meaningful and fun way to earn them can be a challenge. Cookies for Kids’ Cancer offers a great opportunity for students to give back while making a real impact in the fight against childhood cancer. 

Start a Club

Many students have launched Cookies for Kids’ Cancer clubs, organizing bake sales and fundraising events to support pediatric cancer research. These clubs give students the opportunity to develop leadership skills, work together for a cause and engage their community in meaningful action—all while earning valuable volunteer hours.

• Get School Approval – Connect with your administration, club advisor, or student government to plan your fundraiser. They can help with securing a location, setting a date and even offering service hour credit.

Get Creative in Your Fundraising

Organize a large-scale community service event, like a fun run or bake-a-thon, to bring people together and make an even bigger impact. Involve teachers, students and parents to maximize participation and raise more funds. Cookies for Kids’ Cancer wants to support YOU in any way they can and give you the tools to be successful. 

• Register Your Event - our E-Kit has everything you need to get started—fundraising tips, promotional materials like stickers banners and information sheets. Register here!

• Get Organized - Assign roles to club members based on their strengths and availability such as baking, decorating, selling, or handling promotions. Use a SignUpGenius or a similar tool to make organizing easy and ensure everyone has a role that fits their interests and schedule!

• Coordinate with School Administration – Plan your bake sale during high-traffic times, like lunch periods or sporting events, to maximize participation. Set up a booth in a bustling area and use eye-catching banners to attract attention, making it easy for students, staff, and parents to support your cause!

Log and Verify Your Hours

Keep track of your volunteer hours by documenting your activities with photos, event summaries, and any required forms. If your school has a verification process, make sure to follow it—this might include logging hours online or having a teacher, club advisor or event organizer sign off on your contributions.
