Meaningful Ways to Make a Difference as a Family

As 2026 kicks off, it’s a great time to brainstorm how you want to make an impact this year. Fundraising as a family is more than just a way to raise money; it’s an opportunity to instill lifelong values in your children. When kids participate in a cause like Cookies for Kids' Cancer, they learn firsthand about empathy, teamwork and responsibility. They realize that they don't have to wait until they are "grown-ups" to help other kids, they can make a tangible difference right now.

Many of our most dedicated supporters are families who have made giving back an annual tradition. By working together on a project, children build confidence and a sense of social responsibility at a young age and continue to grow into compassionate leaders who understand that even the smallest hands can play a part in changing the world.

Here are some creative ways to give back as a family:

Host a Bake Sale

Gather your favorite family recipes and spend a day baking together for a cause that matters. Little ones can stir and measure, older kids can decorate and everyone can help sell your treats to raise money for kids fighting cancer.

Set up in your neighborhood or at a local event and watch your delicious masterpieces make a real difference. Find bake sale tips and tricks here

Start a Community Cookie Subscription

Turn baking into an ongoing fundraiser with a monthly cookie subscription! Spread the word through flyers, social media and good old-fashioned door knocking. Set a monthly subscription price (maybe $15-20), then deliver a box of fresh-baked treats to your subscribers each month. Your neighbors get their cookie fix, your family gets quality time in the kitchen and funds get raised for childhood cancer research. Win, win, win!

Hold a Yard Sale

Turn spring cleaning into fundraising. Gather toys, clothes and household items you no longer need. Explain the cause to your kids and even let them pick out things of their own they may want to sell. Make signs explaining proceeds benefit kids with cancer. Your family will learn about money and generosity while you declutter and raise funds for an important cause.

Organize a Family Car Wash

Pick a sunny weekend and set up in your driveway or a busy parking lot. Let the kids make bold signs advertising your Cookies for Kids' Cancer car wash. Younger kids can greet customers while older ones scrub and rinse. Set a suggested donation amount and watch your community rally around this child-led effort.

Plan a Backyard Movie Night

Transform your backyard into an outdoor theater. Hang a sheet, set up a projector and invite neighbors for a family-friendly movie under the stars. Charge admission with all proceeds going to research for childhood cancer and let your kids run a concession stand selling popcorn, candy and cookies. It's a cozy way to bring your community together for a great cause.

These simple activities demonstrate that making a difference doesn't have to be complicated; it simply requires a little creativity and a lot of heart. Ready to get started with one of these ideas, or even have your own idea? Contact marissa@beagoodcookie.org or visit our website to get started!
