Inside the Student Leadership Program: Sophia’s Experience with Cookies for Kids’ Cancer

Looking for a way to turn what you care about into real, lasting change?

For me, joining Cookies for Kids' Cancer's Student Leadership Program has been one of the most rewarding experiences. From a young age, my family and I were raising funds for pediatric cancer research. Eventually, that led to leading my own bake sales and joining the Student Leadership Program. It felt like the natural next step—giving me a way to channel one of my passions into real-world leadership skills.

Turning Passion into Purpose

Working with Cookies for Kids’ Cancer changed my perspective—not just on service, but on what we’re capable of when we are truly passionate about something. As a student ambassador, you’ll be part of a national effort to raise awareness and funds for pediatric cancer research—all while growing as a leader and supporting kids who need us most.

Here are just a few of the skills and lessons the program has taught me—skills you’ll have the chance to develop, too:

  • Gained knowledge on planning and executing successful fundraising events

  • Developed confidence to speak up, lead initiatives, engage others and see projects through to completion

  • Recognized the impact of using my voice to advocate for a meaningful cause

  • Learned the importance of taking initiative rather than waiting for others to lead

  • Understood how a single action—such as hosting one bake sale—can spark meaningful change

The program is flexible and manageable for busy teens, with a minimum requirement of attending one meeting per quarter—though the more you participate the more you gain.

Exclusive Perks & Support

Student leaders also get exclusive early access to upcoming campaigns, giving you the chance to be among the first to support major initiatives like the Good Cookie Challenge, Go Gold for Kids Cancer and other campaigns throughout the year. You’ll have opportunities to spread awareness through school clubs, social media or community events.

But that’s not all—Cookies for Kids' Cancer encourages creativity and out-of-the-box thinking. Whether you’re hosting a bake sale, recruiting friends or creating something original, there’s room to lead in your own way.

What sets this program apart is the empowerment you’ll feel. You’ll plan and run events, lead fundraising efforts, speak up to get others involved and turn your ideas into real impact. In the Student Leadership Program, you’ll also receive 1:1 support from the Cookies for Kids’ Cancer team, including Colleen Margiloff and Marissa Schwartz, learning from professionals with years of experience. They offer guidance, expertise and encouragement from your very first idea all the way through execution.

Making Lasting Change

You’re not just helping or volunteering—you’re stepping up, leading and building skills that many don’t develop until their early twenties. You’ll also connect with peers from across the country—from New York to California, North Carolina and beyond—gaining valuable perspectives and friendships along the way.

I’ve gained so much from this experience, and I know many others feel the same. If you’re passionate about helping others, being part of a supportive team and creating something meaningful, this is the program for you. This is your chance to turn compassion into action—and become a leader in the fight against pediatric cancer.

If you’re ready to lead, the time to begin is now! Apply to the Student Leadership Program and take your first step toward changing lives.
